At Unisource, our quest for industry leadership in sustainable business practice depends on a better understanding of exactly where we are today. Our inaugural sustainability report contains our initial Eco Footprint, a detailed summary of environmental performance that has quantified the impact of our activities on the environment and already helped identify opportunities to make our operations greener as we move ahead. It has also provided an accurate baseline from which to measure our progress. For the first time, our 2008 Eco Footprint has established a formal methodology to regularly collect environmental data.
These include:
The type and amount of energy used in lighting and heating our warehouses and buildings
The amount of fuel used by our own sales and distribution fleets, as well as contract carriers
Waste produced in our warehouses and offices
Water used in our offices and on our facilities
In 2008, Unisource’s business activities generated 16,690 metric tonnes of CO2 equivalent emissions. By carefully measuring and monitoring our environmental impact, we also identified many opportunities to improve our performance.
