Minimize the Impact of our Fleet

We are minimizing the environmental impact of our fleet by implementing Roadshow, a route planning software, mainly to improve how our fleet capacity is used and to minimize the distance traveled. Roadshow has already helped us reduce our GHG emissions by reducing the number of vehicles on the road and minimizing the distance traveled.

In 2008, we reduced our GHG emissions even more by implementing the Unisource Mobile Solution (UMS) in all of our delivery vehicles. This solution is a combination of an onboard computer (engine control module) and a handheld device equipped with the GPS technology. With UMS, we were able to reduce our idling time when not moving by 80%. We have also brought down the maximum speed limit for our vehicles to 100 km/hr, helping us to further reduce our GHG emissions. In 2009, UMS will provide us with real-time monitoring of our fuel consumption in our fleet. The introduction of UMS has also allowed us to introduce electronic proof of delivery (ePOD) for all deliveries made by our trucks, substantially reducing the amount of paper used while servicing our customers.
